HexLab
At the edge of Nightwake, is the Home of HexTech. Where magic meets science & technology. Run by Viktor and Jayce Talis. Open by appointment only - available anytime. No weapons.
At the edge of Nightwake City is the HexLab. This is a medium sized building with a couple of main parts. Above the door is a crafted metal sign that says "HEXLAB" and attached to the front door - there's a sign that reads "Open by appointment only - Viktor & Jayce Talis". The part accessible from the street is a small meeting area - meant as an entry way for guests or anyone who they have scheduled a meeting with. The door to the entryway is unlocked; however, anywhere else is locked and inaccessible without an invitation or key. Beyond that, is the main lab itself. There's desks, scattered notes and projects. Works in progress, partially built items - just about anything one could imagine a couple of mad scientist inventors who love magic and technology would have.
In one corner, is a couple of completed projects - including the Atlas Gauntlets and Mercury Hammer.
In a separate room off of the lab is a forge. It's carefully insulated so as to not interfere with the temperature in the rest of the building. The forge is a medium sized space not intended for guests - it's enough space for a blacksmith and a guest.
The back of the building is behind another locked door - and it is a simple home with all of the essentials for staying there. Yes, they live in the same building as their lab.

Character Questions: (100-150 words each)
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon, or who is someone they miss the most and why?
For Jayce - only one person comes to mind - Viktor. Viktor is the man who saved his life the day that they met. He is the one person who believed in him and his dream when no one (not even his own mother) did. It took very little for Jayce to decide that they should be partners, even developing a rapport the first time that they work together after knowing each other for not even a day. They bonded fast and they became (almost) inseparable from that day. Jayce respects his intelligence and constantly makes a point to let everyone know that Viktor’s his partner. Even when people make a point to make him the face and voice of everything, he makes sure to refer to Viktor as his partner, a co-creator of Hextech, as much as possible.
They worked together side by side for seven years and Jayce even describes Viktor as his best friend. During this time, the two of them grew together and developed a meaningful and respectful relationship. One that would be considered unusual given Piltover’s general prejudice against Zaun - where Viktor is from. Jayce has mostly shed this part of Piltover society from himself, thanks to Viktor. Despite his persistent, stubborn personality - he is willing to accept criticism from Viktor and learn from his mistakes. Also note, Jayce says it’s hard for him to adhere to morality with Viktor’s mortality hanging over his head. He’d cause an apocalypse if it meant Viktor would live and nearly did.
2. What are they most afraid of and why?
Jayce has always been afraid of failure - it's why he's as persistent as he is. This doesn’t apply to scientific failures - he expects those as an inventor and scientist. It’s failures to meet goals, expectations, and letting down others. He hates not meeting the expectations of others or himself. Since he was young, he wanted to create magic for Piltover, and when that goal was threatened to be stripped from him - he was afraid he had failed and would have to give up his dream. Jayce was ready to end his own life -- better dead than a failure. Later on, he worries more about the big picture and what the consequences would be if he failed to kill Viktor. After all, he returned to kill Viktor with the promise that he wouldn’t fail - as its not an option. He worries about what damage his failures would cause, and that is definitely part of why he is afraid of them.
3. What are their emotional, mental, and physical weaknesses and why?
Emotionally, Jayce’s well-being is tied to outside forces. What he is dependent on varies depending on where he is in life - but it typically is tied to the well-being of someone he cares about and/or goal that he has. If one of those things falls apart, he starts to essentially crash-out. This leads to him making rash and risky decisions. This includes doing things like breaking a promise and using the Hexcore on Viktor to revive him after explicitly promising to destroy it.
Mentally, he's goal oriented and fairly trusting. This makes him easy to manipulate and use. It means he may fold when promises are made to him that can help him reach his goals. He’ll make business deals and promises to others with the hope that eventually he’ll get to do his own thing. It takes him a long time to realize when he’s being used, and it’s not even in enough time to fix the problem. Another thing to call out is that he suffers from audio and visual hallucinations due to the trauma of isolation at the bottom of a chasm.
Physically, Jayce fell into a chasm and his left leg was further crushed by his own hammer. He was also subjected to infection and improper healing while in this chasm for months. He also lost weight (and muscle) with it all. He's weaker and has a permanent limp. Aim for his left if you want him to fold like a lawn chair.
4. What discrepancies are there between their inner self (who they feel they are) and their outer self (how they present themselves to others)?
Jayce’s outward appearance is one of someone who is well respected in Piltover society. He’s the face of progress, an inventor who greatly boosted Piltover’s economy with his work. He’s someone who was propped up into a position of power and respect due to the work he had done, and on the outside - he takes that position seriously and confidently. He appears to be comfortable and sure of himself when he’s in front of others. But, on the inside - that confidence is often shaken and we see it collapse around people he is close to. Jayce has always exclusively seen himself as a caring inventor who wants to do the best for everyone’s well-being and safety. His confidence is often shaken when faced with difficult and moral decisions and he makes mistakes. Despite the confidence he seems to appear to have on the outside when confronting problems, he knows that a lot of it is posturing to reassure people around him - he’s really just figuring it out for himself.
5. What would make them happiest and why?
He wants to resolve everything peacefully. As a fighter, he's not a pacifist and acknowledges the approaching war, but he certainly wishes there were a peaceful resolution. He’s seen what battle can do to people, and he understands the death that it brings - and he hates it. One death (of a child) at his hands and he was willing to broker a deal with a snake for the sake of everyone involved and avoid further conflict. And while he understands it's unrealistic to expect just peaceful talks where he is now, he still deeply wishes that he could skip the fighting and death and go straight to figuring it out diplomatically - if only because he hates the suffering that comes with it. After all, it’s always been his goal to help people.
6. What characteristics does someone need to have to be your character's ideal significant other?
Jayce is pretty freshly out of a romantic relationship, so he’s not actively searching for one. Plus, he's in the middle of an apocalypse-level divorce. He prefers someone smart and who knows what they want. He needs someone who can keep up with him intellectually since he’s likely to get bored of someone with whom he can’t have long conversations. He needs a partner who is also honest and forward about their intentions and someone who is genuine about him. He needs to be assured that they are on the same page about their relationship, they need to have similar goals and aspirations. He needs to know he can fully trust them, as well. What broke up his last relationship was the realization that he was being used (even though she was not nefarious in this) and treated as an investment, and it helped him to understand they were not in fact on the same page. He’s an affectionate person who wears his heart on his sleeve, and while he doesn’t need a partner who does the same, he does need them to be honest with him about where they are. Plus, if they're a bit magical - it doesn't hurt, either.
7. Would your character make a sacrifice to save someone else and why or why not?
Absolutely. He’d make personal sacrifices to save someone else and absolutely already has - and will continue to make those choices. The first time we truly see this is when he saves Viktor with the Hexcore. This is absolutely a selfish move on his part, but he sacrificed his entire relationship with someone he loves in order to save his life. He deliberately betrayed their relationship in order to save him. He was upset that Viktor disapproved of the choice that he made, but he would absolutely make that choice again and again if only for the sake of having the other back in his life. He also, not long after where he’s being taken from, gives up his life in order to save the world from what has become of Hextech, what they created. Jayce and Viktor ended their own lives for the purpose of ending Hextech. So yes, with the right stakes, he absolutely would make sacrifices - including that of his own life.
8. What is one thing they would tell their younger self if they had the chance, or if your character is young, what is one thing they would want their older self to remember?
Jayce would tell himself when he was young not to give up on his dream and to always make the dream what he would want it to be, not what others want it to be. His reasoning for this is fairly simple - he constantly allowed himself (and by proxy, Viktor) be guided along when working on Hextech. They worked on projects for others first, and themselves last. And what he really wished he had done was the opposite. He wishes they had only done the good things for the people that he had always wanted to do. He wishes that he had spent more time committed to his desire to help people than getting pulled into politics and appeasing powerful people in Piltover. He wanted to create genuine change in the world, but the pushing and pulling for other things led him down a dark path.
9. When in dire circumstances does your character fight, flee, freeze or fawn and how does that look?
Jayce is a fighter! This is man who got a chainsaw to the back in a fight because he charged in with just a regular hammer. He'll absolutely always fight in a dire situation. And not just in a physical sense, either. He’s the type who will step in front of someone he’s protecting and speak up - coming to their defense. He's always willing to step up when he thinks something has to be done. He's not someone who's afraid to deal with a situation directly. After all, he's considered a defender in Piltover. While some of this is due the fact that he lacks any sense of self-preservation, the rest is due to the fact that he knows that someone has to do it and he's always ready to stand up and do what he has to do. In a physical fight, Jayce will charge right in and go head-on into the situation recklessly. It's how people who shouldn't be there get caught in the crossfire.
10. Why did your character make the wish they did?
Easy - because that is exactly what he wants. He tells us that “All I want is my partner back” at the end of the series, but it’s clear that it’s been something he’s been thinking about a lot prior to that point. Early on, Jayce is continually fighting against anyone who stands in the way of him trying to find a method of healing Viktor. Later on, he makes the choice to revive Viktor with the Hexcore simply with the hopes of having him back alive (and even though Viktor is seriously changed, Jayce is just glad that he’s alive). And though he kills Viktor, he starts to realize at that point that what came back because of the Hexcore wasn’t his partner. And when they fight, he tells him that his partner died there. He's finally stopped being in denial about what happened and is realizing that he's really dead. After this, he realizes with Viktor gone, all that he wants is him back.

⯌ Threadjacking It's usually fine!
⯌ Off-Limits None OOCly or ICly (if simply by the merit that he's hiding it all).
⯌ Content Warnings Jayce comes with a bit of baggage. While he may not talk about it actively, there may still be mentions of some things with him including suicidal ideation, death, isolation, starvation, hallucinations, voices in his head, physical trauma (namely left leg). Again, he does not actively talk about most of it, but it's a part of his character.

⯌ Physical Contact
He is very physically affectionate - hugs, touches, and being close to others are how he expresses his care. No warnings needed, anyone is welcome to just initiate physical contact like this with him.
⯌ Mental Contact Jayce has audio/visual hallucations due to his contact with the arcane and trauma. I am still open to this with a chat, if someone is really wanting to deal with this minefield.
⯌ Flirt Yes. Flirting with him is fine and funny. One-sided crushes are fine. He will not reciprocate. He's recently out of a relationship and in the middle of his divorce arc. He's about as emotionally unavailable as they come.
⯌ Fight With previous discussion - yes.
⯌ Injury Yes, with previous discussion.
⯌ Death Case-by-case basis.
